The proposed rise to $85
- 20 March 2026: the Office proposed new fees in the Federal Register, including $55 to $85 for both photo group options (Federal Register 2026-05529). Comments closed on 4 May 2026.
- 14 July 2026: the Office sent its proposed schedule to Congress, keeping $85 for GRPPH and GRUPH (proposed fee schedule).
- Next: new fees may take effect after a 120 day review period unless Congress acts. That period runs to about 11 November 2026. The Office "seeks to implement these new fees in the fall of 2026". When we checked on 21 October 2026, no start date had been announced.
The Office notes that at $85, someone registering the maximum 750 photos "would pay an approximate $0.11 per photograph" (proposed fee schedule).
What else to budget for
- One fee per claim. More than 750 photos, or published photos from two calendar years, means more than one claim (750 photo limit).
- Our tool is separate: $59 a year for unlimited claims. It does not include the Office's fee.
We will update this page when the Office announces a start date. Last checked 21 October 2026.
