Why bother
Your photos get copied. Registration is what gives you leverage.
Stolen images
Wedding galleries lifted onto other sites. Portraits reused in ads. Stock shots used without a license.
Copied listings
Your Etsy, Amazon or Shopify product photos turning up on someone else's listing, selling their copy of your product.
Timing matters
Statutory damages and attorney's fees are generally only available if a photo was registered before the infringement began, or within three months of first publication (Compendium 1114.5, 17 U.S.C. 412).
General information from copyright.gov, not legal advice.
Before and after
From a messy folder to a filing you can upload.
Preparing a group claim by hand means typing every title, file name and month into the Office's spreadsheet, renaming files so they match, and splitting zips under 500 MB. That is the part we do.

How it works
Three steps, all in your browser.
Add your photos
Add a whole shoot or a year of product photos from your photo library or files, or drop in a folder on a desktop. We read capture dates from EXIF and show every photo as a thumbnail. Nothing is uploaded.
Fix what is flagged
Wrong file types, duplicates, odd file names, missing titles and dates, and more than 750 photos or more than one year in a published claim. Each message says how to fix it.
Download and file
Get the Copyright Office's own titles list template filled in, zips under the 500 MB upload limit, and a screen by screen guide for eCO.

Private by design
Your photos never leave your device.
The checker reads your files inside your browser. The page is locked so it cannot send data to any other site, and nothing about your photos is sent to us or stored. The only requests it makes with any content are the license check, which sends your key, and a note of each download, which sends your key and the kind of file. Nothing else.
What the checker looks at
- JPEG, GIF or TIFF only, with PNG and WebP converted for you
- Up to 750 photos per claim, split automatically
- One calendar year per published claim
- Exact duplicates, found by file contents
- File names that match the titles list exactly
- Zips under the 500 MB upload limit
- Titles eCO will accept: plain letters and numbers

Questions
Is this legal advice?
No. Register My Photos is a file preparation tool. We are not a law firm and not affiliated with the U.S. Copyright Office. We do not decide whether your photos are published, who the author or claimant is, or whether registering is right for you. If you need advice, speak to a lawyer.
Do my photos get uploaded?
No. The checker is a web page that runs in your browser, on your phone, tablet or computer. It reads your photos in the browser, and a security setting in the page stops it sending anything to any other site. The only things it ever sends to us are your license key, to check it is valid, and, when you download a file, the key and the kind of file (titles list, CSV or zip), so we know when an export happened. Never a photo, file name or title.
Which registrations does it cover?
The two group options for photographs: Group Registration of Published Photographs (GRPPH) and Group Registration of Unpublished Photographs (GRUPH). Each claim covers up to 750 photos for one filing fee, $55 when we checked on 22 October 2026.
How do I know if my photos are published?
That is your decision, and the tool never makes it for you. The Copyright Office explains publication in Circular 42 and Compendium chapter 1900. In its words, a photo is published when copies are distributed to the public, or offered to a group for further distribution or display; simply displaying a photo is not publication in itself.
Does it work on a phone or tablet?
Yes. Open the checker in Safari on an iPhone or iPad, or Chrome on Android, tap Choose photos and pick from your photo library or files. Everything still runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded. Choosing a whole folder and dragging photos in work only in a desktop browser. Large claims make big zips, so a computer is easier for hundreds of photos, and you will need to upload the zip to eCO from the same device.
What file types can I register?
For group photo claims the Office accepts JPEG, GIF or TIFF only. The checker can re-save PNG and WebP files as JPEG for you. For HEIC or RAW files, export JPEG or TIFF from your photo editor first.
